Fish are fish

A coworker of mine asked me, "Are fish fish?"
After I stared at him blankly for a long moment, I said, "Yes. Fish are fish."
Then he thought he cleared things up by saying, "Well, I know birds are birds and mammals are mammals, but are fish fish or reptiles?"
"Yes," I said again, "Fish are fish."
